Odisha celebrates 77th foundation day – Utkal Divas is celebrated April 1 every year to mark the formation of Odisha state. Odisha Day (or Utkala Dibasa) is observed on 1 April every year  in Odisha in to mark the formation of the state as a separate province on 1 April 1936.

• Subsequent to the defeat and death of the last Hindu king Mukunda Dev, it lost its complete political identity in 1568.
• Consistent efforts were put in which finally resulted in the formation of a politically separate state under British rule on linguistic basis on 1 April 1936.
